How to choose the right location for the greenhouse and what are the tips for choosing the location?

Before building a greenhouse, the first question a prospective owner should ask about the construction is where the greenhouse should be located.

Usually, there is plenty of sunlight during the day, there is not enough space in the land, and the soil on the land is very limited. Of course, all of this is made easier if you’re a peasant industrialist, or if you own a lot of land in the open. If you also consider the logistics, i.e. the location of the greenhouse in the future, pay attention to the opportunity to physically access it. The connection of communications and power lines is also an important consideration. After all, successful sites that meet the requirements for greenhouses will be few and far between.

As a prospective owner, you should also not forget to consider the aesthetic aspect of the question of what kind of view the greenhouse in the new place will have. Therefore, the location of the greenhouse construction is a very important factor in determining the convenience of further use of the greenhouse and the degree of functionalization of the greenhouse house.

So as mentioned earlier, the amount of sunlight entering the greenhouse during the day is the most important thing in the design of the greenhouse location. Many flowering plants need as much light as possible to grow successfully.

For these types of plants, individual greenhouses should be placed as follows: one of the walls should face the southeast side, while the adjacent walls should face the southwest side. Later, if you are transplanting vegetables and flowering plants into an outdoor garden, the main rule should be that these plants and vegetables should get maximum heat and light, especially in the spring (so that you can transplant fully mature crops into the summer). Plants that need less sunlight should be placed on the east side of the wall in the greenhouse.

The peculiarity of the greenhouse’s position relative to the two sides of the world has to do with the fact that the sun rises in the east and sets in the west. The most heat accumulates in the greenhouse when the sun leaves the zenith and begins to descend in the sky toward the eastern side of the world. Naturally everyone has a question: Why can’t the greenhouse be positioned strictly on compass coordinates so that its walls can see both sides of the world?

Due to the rotation of the Earth, the fact is that the positions of sunrise and sunset are slightly shifted relative to north and south during the calendar year. Therefore, we recommend that you arrange the greenhouse diagonally relative to the coordinates of the compass. And always remember that the north side of the greenhouse always receives less sunlight than the other sides. The greenhouse should be away from trees, buildings and other objects that block the sun.

          Greenhouse direction

Also, make sure the greenhouse is erected on a flat surface relative to the ground. Otherwise, the foundation level of the future greenhouse should be flat. Ideally, the greenhouse should be located on a terrain with an average elevation above sea level. The level should not be much higher, nor much lower.

There should be no problem with soil drainage at the greenhouse location. In other words, water should be free to sink without stopping. In cases where water will not pass through the soil, you should pay attention to artificial systems for soil drainage.

You should also consider the intake of air within the greenhouse. The greenhouse should be blown by air masses in all directions. So the best option is to build a greenhouse with enough distance from all other objects and buildings. Again, don’t forget that the logistics greenhouse should be conveniently located for your use.
